Quebec microtonal rock duo Angine de Poitrine returns to Canada for a massive free headline concert at the Montreal International Jazz Festival on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 9:30 p.m. at the place des Festivals, following a viral global breakthrough and the debut of a new custom double-neck instrument.
The band, consisting of guitarist-bass player Khn and drummer Klek, recently toured packed venues across Europe and appeared on the BBC show Later… with Jools Holland on June 22. Their meteoric rise follows a Live at KEXP session that garnered over 16 million views on YouTube, alongside drawing over one million monthly Spotify listeners, with their track Fabienk reaching nearly 12 million streams.
Festival organizers scheduled the band on the prominent TD Stage before their international popularity exploded, a move that paid off as officials now expect the venue to be filled to maximum capacity. Angine de Poitrine has also earned three Polaris Music Prize nominations, including Album of the Year for Vol. II, and won the Billboard Canada Global Breakthrough Award.
Festival programming director Maurin Auxéméry addressed the high-stakes booking decision that preceded the band’s current global phenomenon.
“On est presque passés pour des génies d’avoir booké Angine de Poitrine sur la scène principale,” said Maurin Auxéméry, Director of Programming for the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
To support the band’s demanding tour schedule, Godin Guitars manufactured a brand new, lightweight version of Khn’s signature microtonal double-neck guitar-bass, according to a report by Guitar World. The original instrument was crafted by luthier Raphaél Le Breton, but his commitment to other projects led the band to collaborate with Godin for a second piece.
The updated custom instrument features a six-string guitar neck, a four-string bass neck, and a microtonal fretboard that divides the octave into 24 quarter-tones. Godin modified the ergonomics through chambering and weight redistribution to improve on-stage comfort, adding unique dice-shaped knobs displaying the number three and moving the output jacks to the lower edge.
Fans attending the outdoor Montreal concert have been advised to arrive early due to the intense frenzy surrounding the group. Attendees regularly participate in the duo’s unique performance rituals, which include wearing black-and-white polka dot clothing, making overhead triangle hand signs, practicing absolute silence between songs, and forming localized mosh pits near the stage.
Following the Montreal performance, Angine de Poitrine will continue their fully booked tour schedule through mid-December, starting with Festival La Noce in Chicoutimi on July 2 and Festivoix in Trois-Rivières on July 3. The duo will later travel across Canada, perform at the Fujirock festival in Niigata, Japan on July 26, and embark on dates throughout the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, and England, while the Montreal International Jazz Festival continues its free programming through July 5.
