　“好き”と“憧れ”の境界線を走り出す、新たな転換点　Maddie Ashman自身が「長い間ずっと、ドラマーと一緒に自分の曲を演奏するのが夢だった」と投稿していたように、新曲「Amber」は彼女にとってひとつの転換点を感じさせる一曲だ。　これまでチェロや声を軸に、複雑なハーモニーや変則的なリズムを繊細に組み上げてきた彼女だが、「Amber」ではドラムが新たな推進力となり、その“美しき違和感”がより身体的なグルーヴへと変わり始めている。どこか室内楽的だった音楽が、ライブで身体ごと感じたくなる音楽へ。　その変化には、複雑な音楽構造を強烈なグルーヴへ変える今年フジロックにも出演するANGINE DE POITRINEとも少し重なる面白さがある。　歌詞で描かれるのは、ひとりの女性への“恋”と“憧れ”が入り混じった感情。自由に自分を表現し、自分の気持ちを理解している彼女に惹かれながら、「彼女をもっと知りたい」と同時に「私もあんなふうになりたい」と願う。　タイトルの「Amber＝黄色信号」を“立ち止まる／迷う瞬間”と読むなら、繰り返される「Runner runner」は、その迷いを振り切るように走り出す衝動にも聞こえる。　繊細で複雑だったMaddie Ashmanの音楽が、ドラムを得て身体的に走り出す。そして歌詞の主人公もまた、誰かへの恋と憧れに突き動かされて走り出す。　「Amber」は、その音楽と感情、二つの“走り出す瞬間”が重なった一曲なのかもしれない。　そして今回「Amber」でMaddie…
